It is not surprising that consumers are confused by the labelling of animal products: Most animals farmed in the UK are reared in accordance with the standards of a farm assurance scheme and all of these schemes claim to ensure high standards of animal welfare, yet they vary greatly in their requirements for how animals are kept and cared for.
